Thomas Baus Mason

Thomas Bause Mason is Director of Standards Development at the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), where he leads standards development and industry engagement. His career spans software engineering, broadcast operations, postproduction, and emerging media technology across Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Prior to SMPTE, he held roles at WDR and Cologne Broadcasting Center, worked as a postproduction consultant for Ascent Media, and supported digital media initiatives at NBC Universal. He has contributed to industry standards, technical recommendations, and study group reports, and holds multiple patents in watermarking, 3D, authentication, metadata tagging, and virtual reality.
