The Future Mentors Programme invites producers with African passports who have produced films and have a desire to enter the mentorship space. The programme is looking for filmmakers who have produced 2 feature-length films in both documentary or fiction, have attended development labs and programmes or have a history training experience of working grass root training programmes.
If you are an African film industry professional based outside of Africa, you will have to advise what percentage of your work is based in the continent.
Kindly note that acceptance into the programme will not be based on a specific film project. (You do not need an active film project to participate in the programme). Selected participants will need to avail themselves of two online introductory sessions and five physical days of training taking place in Durban, South Africa in the month of November.
Specific dates will be communicated to selected participants upon confirmation of selection.
The DFMI invites producers with African passports who have produced films and have 5 years of experience in the industry.
Filmmakers who are interested in the programme will need to provide a detailed Curriculum Vitae with filmography, a list of minimum 3 references including contact numbers and a 1-page letter of motivation for consideration to participate.
The first edition of the Future Mentors training programme is open to DFMI Alumni only.
Technical Evaluation – Application will be evaluated according to eligibility criteria
Participant Evaluation – A panel of industry professionals will evaluate the application
Confirming shortlisted participants – Shortlisted participants will be contacted for availability and confirmation
Announcement of official selection – Public announcement of participants
- All enquiries pertaining to the programme must be directed to DFMI via [email protected].
- Applicants are not permitted to direct any questions or comments to evaluation panel members in advance of deadlines or following decisions.
- The Durban FilmMart Institute reserves the right to alter programme guidelines with a general email notification to all potential applicants.
- Time commitments with specific dates will be communicated to selected participants upon confirmation of selection. Participants are expected to attend all sessions.
- Flights and accommodation for selected participants will be provided by the Durban FilmMart Institute.
- DFMI is able to provide economy travel and accommodation at the designated event hotel (details to be sent in due course) for the duration of the programme, for one person traveling within the African continent.
