Sara Chitmbo-Hatira

Sara Chitambo-Hatira is a filmmaker, arts project manager and current Chairperson of the Documentary Filmmakers’ Association of South Africa. She is committed to telling stories that explore urgent social, environmental and cultural issues while championing African voices. Her award-winning debut feature, Black People Don’t Get Depressed, is included in the University of Michigan’s Afroamerican and African Studies syllabus. She holds a Master’s degree in Digital Documentary from the University of Sussex and regularly contributes to festival panels and industry conversations on documentary, audience engagement and the power of cinema to inspire dialogue and social change.
