Sam Soko

Sam Soko is a Nairobi-based documentary filmmaker whose character-driven films show how politics, society, and economics are lived at the most personal level. His directorial debut, Softie (2020), premiered at Sundance, where it won a Special Jury Award. He has since worked across directing, producing, and editing, with films screening at festivals including Berlin and TIFF and reaching audiences worldwide through Netflix, the BBC, PBS, and others. Soko has earned Emmy, Peabody, and PGA nominations for his work. A passionate advocate for free expression and inclusive storytelling, he co-founded LBx Africa, a collective of companies dedicated to amplifying African voices and meeting audiences at home and beyond. He is a member of the documentary branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
