Loreley Yeowart

I commenced my professional career as a freelance make-up artist and art department stylist, contributing to international feature films. Seeking to engage with South African productions, I transitioned into accounting and production roles at a local television production and distribution company, and progressively advanced to serve as a line producer across various genres—including documentary, magazine, reality, animation, and drama. Presently, I am engaged as a freelance supervising producer and line producer in Johannesburg. Additionally, I serve as a senior lecturer in producing at the African Film District and Television Academic (AFDA), having earned an MFA and received an AFDA Silver Award for Outstanding Achievement in Screenwriting, with a thesis titled “Creating Effective Behaviour Change Messages in Television Production.” I have provided mentorship to numerous individuals over the years, both formally and informally. As a member of the SWIFT board, I am eager to leverage this experience, alongside my roles as a lecturer at AFDA (offering a higher certificate) and at the Big Fish School of Documentary Filmmaking, as well as my position as a second-year producing lecturer, to develop mentorship programmes aimed at ensuring young women receive the guidance necessary to commence their careers. This endeavour is a personal passion; I always ensure that interns are involved in all productions I oversee. It would be a privilege to have the opportunity to further expand these initiatives.
