Kaona Letlape

KaOna Moniccah Letlape (26) is a South African filmmaker and 2nd Assistant Camera / Clapper Loader, working across long-form television, film, and commercial productions. She hails from Rankelenyane village in Rustenburg, North West, is a graduate of AFDA where she majored in Cinematography, and is professionally represented by Exposure Crew, a camera crew agency working across high-end local and international productions. Her credits include Netflix and MNET long-form titles such as: Marked, Classified, City of Gold, How to Ruin Love (Season 2), The Polygamist, 180°, City of Gold, Shaka iLembe and Republic of South Ahh-ROSA.At the core of KaOna’s work is a commitment to documenting, preserving, and archiving, using moving image as a tool to safeguard memory while creatively responding to immediate social, cultural, and economic challenges faced by African communities. She is the founder of Segaetsho Initiative, an audio-visual archiving NGO dedicated to preserving Batswana Indigenous Knowledge Systems. KaOna is deeply invested in storytelling as a means of empowerment, particularly in immersing children in the world of stories, sparking imagination, and supporting young creatives in using their tools of trade to create meaningful impact within their societies. Her practice sits at the intersection of technical excellence, cultural preservation, and future-facing African storytelling.
