Catherine Meyburgh

Catherine Meyburgh works as director, projection designer, editor and producer in documentary, fiction films and television. As projection designer for theatre and opera – Nkoli, the Vogue Opera, Lulu, The Head & the Load, The Nose, Wozzeck and Die Zauberflöte (Met opera – New York; La Scala – Milano; NNTT – Tokyo, Paris). As multi projection designer – Refusal of Time, Africa Rifting, Lines of Fire, Mining Bodies, Something This Way Comes, Phantom Hurt, We will slam you with your wings (dOKUMENTA, WAM, Iziko, Smithsonian, Rhurtriennale, Tate modern, Holland festival, The Armory, Nelson Mandela Foundation, Confederation Square). As editor, Feature films and television drama series (Heartlines, Taste of Rain, Gugu & Andile, Yizo Yizo, Soul City, When we were Black 2, Zero Tolerence, Crossing the Line and more than 30 award winning documentaries (Arte, Channel 4, BBC – Storyville, ZDF, SABC, NBC, IDFA, DIFF, Berlinale, Hotdocs). She is co-director, co-producer and editor of the multi-award winning documentary “Dying for Gold” with Richard Pakleppa. As director and editor, Viva Madiba, a hero for all seasons, Kentridge and Duma in Conversation, The Glow of White Women, Dying for Gold. Her projection designs on Philip Miller’s Nkoli, the Vogue Opera and collaborator on William Kentridge’s The Head & The Load will be touring internationally in 2026. She is active in organisations supporting South African Film makers including SAGE, DFA, SWIFT and RCLA.
