Carlos Norhona

Carlos Noronha is a Mozambican producer, director, and cinematographer with over 21 years of experience crafting compelling narratives at the intersection of science, environment, culture, and community. He launched his filmmaking career in 2009 as a location producer for Mozambique’s first television drama addressing malaria and mosquito-borne diseases—an experience that established his lifelong commitment to socially and environmentally driven storytelling. Throughout his career, Noronha has operated seamlessly across documentary and narrative fiction as a director, producer, editor, and director of photography (DP). Notably, he directed and served as DP for the drama series “Influencer”, produced for MultiChoice and broadcast on DStv Mozambique. Working in close collaboration with local communities, his portfolio examines the human and ecological impacts of conservation, extractive industries, and climate change. His international production experience spans Mozambique, South Africa, Brazil, Tanzania, Malawi, Angola, Ghana, and Benin alongside diverse global crews. In 2021, Noronha directed and produced the documentary “Nthoro – Aldeia de Ratos”, earning a Special Mention at the DocLuanda International Film Festival. He was awarded the prestigious Mozal Arts and Culture Prize for Cinema and Audiovisual in 2023. That same year, he completed the Short Learning Programme in Cinematography at the MultiChoice Talent Factory, further honing his technical and visual skills. Also in 2023, he was selected for the African Science Film Fellowship—a year-long science communication program comprising fieldwork in Gorongosa National Park, delegateship at the Jackson Wild Summit (USA), and a keynote showcase at the NEWF Fellows Summit; Congress. During his fellowship, Noronha served as Director of Photography on “Pangolin Protectors” (nominated at the Jackson Wild Media Awards 2025) and the “Rhino Ops” episode for the “Wild Hope” series (selected for the Jackson Wild Media Awards 2026). Most recently, he has operated as DP on high-profile science and conservation initiatives for the National Geographic Society, OceanX, NEWF, and HHMI Tangled Bank Studios, capturing wildlife and species protection efforts across Africa.
