Bio

With a distinct style of humanness and honesty, Robyn Phillips is a Film Director who works from intuition and heart. Community and South African culture are at the centre of her storytelling, she finds passion in stories that are uncomfortable to make and important to be told.

Robyn operates from the depths of intuition and the core of her heart to create narrative films that resonate on an emotional level. With a profound commitment to storytelling, Robyn fearlessly embraces themes that are both challenging to bring to life yet undeniably essential to share.

Drawing from her background as an Art Director in advertising, Robyn infuses her work with a crafted cinematic perspective, elevating each frame with depth. Her debut award-winning film, “Seasons of Longing”, talks about the queer history of her home, capturing the raw essence of their experiences with sensitivity and authenticity.

Continuously questioning, Robyn delves into the uncomfortable and unspoken emotions of her own South African society, using her films to shed light on the complexities of the human condition.
