MITCHELL HARPER
BIO
Mitchell Harper is a freelance curator, cultural programmer, and producer from South Africa working across the artistic spectrum, specializing in film.
He is the Durban FilmMart’s Industry Programme Curator, and co-curated the industry programme for the Durban Film Mart (2019 & 2020). He has worked on European Union Film Festival (2018), The National Arts Festival (2018), Durban International Film Festival (2018), Cape Town International Film Market and Festival (2018).From 2014-2017 he was the DIFF Assistant Film Festival Manager, and served as Feature Fiction programmer for the 2020 edition.
A partner of Ctrl. Alt. Shift, a creative industry consultancy and production company. He co founded ENGAGE, a Pan-African Think Tank aimed to create and to foster continental networks, with activities at Durban Film Mart 2019- 2022, Toronto International Film Festival (2019), 10th African International Film Festival, and European Film Mart (2020 – 2021).
He is a member of Programmers of Colour Collective, judge of the of the 48hr Film Challenge (2015), a project reader for Realness Institute(2019 -2021), and a been in programmes such as Locarno Pro: Under 30, Locarno Pro: Southern Africa Industry Academy and NFVF’s SEDIBA producer’s programme. He has spoken on panels at events such as Joburg Film Festival and Marrakech Film Festival.
