Bio

Iman Tariq Kennerly is Prosper Africa’s Senior Advisor and Lead for Business Development. He develops pipelines of investments and coordinates the execution of transactions with investors and U.S. government agencies. He also has responsibility for developing government-wide sector strategies for Prosper Africa.

Iman spent 20 years originating trade and investment with the U.S. Development Finance Corporation (DFC; formerly known as Overseas Private Investment Corporation) and on Wall Street. While at DFC, he was detailed to USAID’s Bureau for Resilience and Food Security as an advisor and program manager.

Iman has directly led over 116 transactions in more than 40 countries. His underwriting experience spans debt and equity, funds, securitizations, insurance, derivatives, and trade finance. In addition to underwriting, Iman has led business development initiatives and served as principal for several interagency priorities, including renewable energy, technology, and under-represented businesses.

Iman has executed innovative transactions in established emerging markets, such as DFC’s first corporate loan to a housing developer, a mortgage facility for informal income earners, and multiple fintech startups. He also has experience in challenging markets such as South Sudan, Somalia, Burma, Afghanistan, and East Jerusalem.

Iman earned his MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business and his BBA in International Business from Howard University. He is an avid ice hockey player and certified coach.
