The Durban FilmMart Institute is a Non Profit Company working in the area of developing African filmmakers and creating mechanisms of growth for the film industry on the African continent. This is achieved through year round mentorship initiatives and training labs implemented and the presentation of the annual Durban FilmMart, which has been established for 14 years. The Durban FilmMart (DFM) is a pan-African film industry event designed to create partnerships and further the development of African cinema. The DFM was named in UNESCO’s 2021 Film Trends in Africa Report as ‘the continent’s best film market’. DFM provides two important strands to the film industry – (1) an industry programme made up of masterclasses, workshops and panel discussions to highlight the trends, changes and the future of film industry and (2) a finance and coproduction market for film projects in development.
