AWOTELE IS BACK!
Launched in 2015, AWOTELE was a self-funded print magazine published by Sudu Connexion during 23 editions until 2023, 48 full-color pages, in French and English, three times a year to coincide with the Fespaco (Burkina Faso), the Carthage International Film Festival (Tunisia), and the Durban FilmMart (South Africa).
The magazine also had a film column on TV5 Monde and a partnership with the TV show Ciné Le Mag on Canal+ before the entire team resigned…
Five years after its last issue (No. 23), published at the 2022 Carthage Film Festival, we are pleased to relaunch as a website entirely dedicated to the continent’s film news.
Each week, we’ll cover features on film professionals (Talents), film spotlights (Close-Up), a variety of film news (Flash), films opening in commercial theaters across Africa (Now Playing), as well as financial opportunities (Business). And we’ll be sure to give a voice to those working on the continent through our Opinion section…
Thanks to the support of Africa No Filter and the Fondation africaine pour l’éducation, AWOTELE comes back in 2026 as a news website dedicated to the actuality of African films, with a special focus on films theatrically released on the continent, and opinion pieces by African film professionals.
Discover our first Opinion piece: Rethinking African Cinemas: Why Plurality Matters by the film critic Charles Ayetan (Togo).
