DFM Access 2025

4th DFM Access Call for Projects in Development

DFM ACCESS CALL FOR PROJECTS IN DEVELOPMENT

The Durban FilmMart Institute (DFMI) has opened the call for the fourth edition of DFM ACCESS.

DFM Access is an 8-week development platform for early career South African producers. It provides a nurturing framework for participants with active feature length or episodic independent film projects in development to hone and improve their scripts and project packages.

With funding support from the National Film and Video Foundation PESP funding, this online incubation programme supports producers in shaping their stories, preparing their project presentations and understanding the marketplace in order to create effective strategies for their current projects and to plan their professional trajectory. The programme consists of one-on-one mentorship and talks led by industry experts.

“The Durban FilmMart Institute recognises the importance of nurturing new talent and providing access into an industry that can sometimes be intimidating and challenging for a new producer,” says Magdalene Reddy, director of the Durban FilmMart Institute.  “DFM Access is one of the DFMI’s year-round programme offerings that helps emerging producers navigate the film industry in order to achieve their production goals. .” The programme is intentionally designed to provide access and offer insights that help producers prepare to package and pitch their projects with confidence.

Over the past 3 years, DFMI has seen almost 56  first time producers acquire the skills and knowledge to successfully participate in local and international markets.

“When I joined the DFM Access Programme, I had a story and a dream but not the tools. With the support of the mentorship offered, I found my voice,”  says Rafieka Davids. “I  learnt how to present The Pathfinder pitch with confidence. It was my first time pitching in front of a professional panel, and it changed everything. I left with more than just experience, I left with belief in myself.”

Ms Davids was one of the three participants who, because of the DFM Access Programme, was selected to pitch at the DFM Pitch and Finance Forum 2024.

The application process for the 4th DFM Access is now open and will close on Friday, 26 April. Selected participants will have to commit to attending online sessions during the months of May, June and August.
