Bio

Yashika Singh is currently the Head of Religion for SABC Television and served in many capacities at the Public Broadcaster for over 28 years. In the early years, she was involved in production, scriptwriting, directing and presenting television shows that spanned many genres of work over the years. She was also employed at SABC 3 where she worked in International Acquisitions, Programme Acceptance, Scheduling and programming.

She later moved to SABC 2 where the Religious department was housed and later moved to SABC Content Hub. She thereafter worked as a Commissioning Editor in the religious unit for many years working on a range of formats, from magazine shows, Signature Series, worship, drama, Children’s programming, documentaries, and commissioned local and International Award Winning Films, for the long established Issues of Faith series at the Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcast Development, for the SABC.

She has commissioned the film, “I am That” which came second in the Best documentary category in Thailand Film Festival. The Signature Series Global warming and Religion-A Vision of Paradise won the Old Mutual Award for Best Environmental Documentary series as well as Best Script Award. She has been awarded Best Documentary-International for the Film, Issues of Faith- Good Vibrations for promoting peace and harmony in the world 2006.

She was later appointed Senior Commissioning Editor before taking on her current position. Yashika works with faith based organisations in SA and is very involved with interfaith activities on peace initiatives in the country. Her history of activism began as a student in the country’s liberation movement, at a time when grave injustices and prejudices prevailed.

She was the recipient of the International Leadership Development Programme Scholarship to the United States in 2008, has represented the broadcaster at the World Peace Summit in Seoul in 2014. Yashika was awarded Peace Ambassador for HWPL Global Summit in 2015 She continues to represent initiatives on gender issues locally and globally.

In 2018 she represented SA on the role of the Hindu woman, at the Parliament of the World’s Religions Chicago Address at the 125th Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

In 2019 She was chosen as Part of a journalist delegation to attend the Republic Day of India programne and with special visits to Bangalore ITEC and India’s Space Center at ISRO.
