Russel Hlongwane is a cultural producer based in Durban. His work is located at the intersection of Heritage/ Modernity and Culture/ Tradition as it applies to black life. His practice includes cultural research, new media, creative producing, design, curatorship and the creative economy.
He is part of a number of long-term collectives, working groups and programmes spread across the SADC region, the African continent and internationally.
His experimental short film Ifu Elimnyama: The Dark Cloud received the Jury Prize at the Sharjah Film Platform (2019). His writing is spread across arts journals, academic platforms and independent media.
His work has shown extensively across Europe, Africa as well as Asia and the United States of America.
