Tollman Film Company is the revival of niche storytelling in an era of telenovela. Through fiction, our work explores mental health themes prioritising women, femme and marginalised perspectives. Fiction storytelling is a powerful vehicle to take psychology out of elite therapy rooms and to people. A character’s confronting journey to heal can resonate with the often isolating struggles of real people. As 21st century feminist filmmakers, we disrupt what the male gaze constitutes as palatable visual language to express lived heartaches, victories and joy. We use fiction as a therapeutic balm for healing the broken modern heart.
