Bio

Born in Kwa Zulu-Natal: Mark’s 40 year film career spans the disciplines of filmmaking in award winning directing, cinematography, producing & screenwriting. His admiration of Zulu & African culture and heritage has seen him direct music films for many South African legends: Philip Tabane, Caiphus Semenya, Vusi Mahlasela, Judith Sephuma and Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Mzwakhe, as well as directing multi-camera television broadcast on Cape Town’s legendary Jazz Festival for a number of years. Mark’s career rose to prominence with his film of Vicki Sampson: “My Afrikan Dream” which garnered a SAMA (South African Music Award). Subsequently he received the South African Society of Cinematography’s (SASC) “Visible Spectrum Award” (three times) for Jonathon Butler’s ”Exodus” – Burning Spears “Home to my Roots” & Joseph Hill’s “Live in Africa”. An experienced, creative & insightful film professional, with a respectful personality, Mark understands the success of any commercial filmmaking will be found in the combination of art & commerce wrapped in a dramatic and dynamic storytelling! His most recent film as producer / director: MASINGA.
