Samira Vera-Cruz

BIO

Born in São Vicente, Samira Vera-Cruz is a Cape-Verdean film director, producer and CEO of Parallax Produções. With a major in Film Studies and a minor in Global Communications by the American University of Paris (France), the filmmaker has experience working in Cabo Verde, Angola and Mozambique. Author, director and editor of Buska Santu (short fiction, 2016), Hora di Bai (short documentary, 2017), Sukuru (feature, 2017), Ti ki nu odja (short documentary, 2019) and Filha da… (short fiction, 2022). The director participated in Talents Durban 2019, with her documentary project “And Who Will Cook?” and received the PR Consulting Award. She was also selected for FIDADOC’s writing residency and Durban Filmmart, both in 2019, and Ouaga Film Lab in 2020. At the later she won the IDFA and World Cinema Fund/Goethe Institute Awards. Samira is one of the members and founders of the PALOP-TL Film and Audiovisual Network.
